Make A DifferenceWhat does it mean to make a difference? Making a difference could mean that your sister has access to her ob/gyn, your father receives, and is reimbursed for, a breakthrough therapy, or your neighbor has to travel to only one medical facility to receive all of his cancer treatment. You can help make a difference in healthcare by giving your time to help solve those problems that span across the nation or are right in your backyard. Is it hard work to make a difference? Yes, sometimes, but it can also be very rewarding and a lot of fun! Meeting new friends, learning new ideas, mastering new skills, and gaining a sense of accomplishment are all great reasons to volunteer. By joining the Advocates Network you can make a difference! Through this volunteer advocates network, you will be informed of current state and federal initiatives that will affect the healthcare of Americans. By knowing the key points, you will be able to effectively bring your voice to legislators who sit in a position to make that difference happen. Advocates NetworkThis important volunteer group engages with specific advocacy missions on an as-needed basis, such as critical letter-writing campaigns. These efforts can make or break legislative action, and we hope to rely on you to enthusiastically respond. As a member of the NPAF Advocates Network, you will receive periodic updates from NPAF and PAF on healthcare access issues; as well, you may be called upon to participate in these and other important advocacy activities. We also rely heavily on Advocates Network members to spread the word in their communities about the Advocates Network and the services provided by our companion organization, Patient Advocate Foundation. We invite you to become an active member in your state's branch of the Advocates Network and look forward to your involvement in these powerful teams. The Advocates Network (AN) is a volunteer advocacy program comprised of patients, caregivers, physicians, nurses, attorneys, patient advocates, and patient services professionals in the United States. The Network serves as an information network for the purpose of:
- Educating elected officials at both the state and federal levels about policy and legislative reform that improves, restores, and/or maintains access to care and reimbursement for the complete cycle of healthcare services required from a point of early detection to the end of life care,
- Educating the public on the patient services provided by Patient Advocate Foundation, and
- Supporting the fundraising efforts of the Patient Advocate Foundation that allow financial support for state Lobby Day programs, attendance at Patient Congress in Washington, DC, and attendance at regional and national advocacy training events.
