Scientific Advisory Board Releases Statement on Changes to Mammography Guidelines |
|
Today the Scientific Advisory Board for the Patient Advocate Foundation/National Patient Advocate Foundation released a statement respectfully disagreeing with recent changes to the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force mammography guidelines. The new guidelines for breast cancer screening recommend against routine screening mammography in women aged 40 to 49 years.
As 25% of all PAF breast cancer patients fall within this age group, the potential effects of these guideline changes are particularly troubling and PAF/NPAF is concerned that future coverage decisions of private health insurance companies may be based on these recommendations.
