House and Senate Override President's Medicare Veto |
|
The same day President Bush vetoed legislation that would stop a 10.6% cut in reimbursements to Medicare providers, the House and Senate voted overwhelmingly to override his veto. The House voted 383-41; the Senate 70-26. The legislation delays the reimbursement cut for 18 months; in addition, it reduces reimbursement to insurance companies that offer Medicare Advantage plans to seniors. Twenty-four additional Republican House members voted in opposition to President Bush's position than in a previous vote on the bill in June; four Republican Senators also changed their previous Medicare votes. |
