Medicare Legislation in Jeopardy

Negotiations between Democrats and Republicans on Medicare legislation seem to have stalled report Congressional staff.  With little time remaining before elected officials adjourn for recess, progress on the legislation that would delay a 10 percent physician fee cut scheduled for January 1st appears unlikely. 

Democrats recently proposed a one-year, 0.5 percent rate increase for physicians treating Medicare patients but Republicans are not willing to support the proposal and have not reached agreement after making a counteroffer.  One contentious issue that is part of the Medicare package is whether or not to include cuts to Medicare Advantage plans which Democrats typically favor to fund the physician fee cut and Republicans generally oppose.
