President Releases Fiscal Year 2011 Budget

On February 1st, President Obama released his budget for fiscal year 2011.  The $3.8 trillion budget seeks to freeze most domestic spending but provides small increases for some health-related items and agencies.

The budget provides an increase in funding for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to $32 billion, which is an increase of $1 billion over the FY 2010 level.  In addition, the President's budget includes $286 million for comparative effectiveness research at the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) and increases Medicaid spending by $25.5 billion for a 6-month extension of the temporary increase in the Federal Medicaid match (FMAP) enacted under the stimulus bill.
