Patients Benefit from New ACA Provisions
September 23rd, 2010, marks the six month anniversary of the "Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act" (ACA) becoming law. Several very significant benefits go into effect on September 23rd including:
- Pre-existing condition exclusions for children under 19 are prohibited;
- Insurers will be prohibited from rescinding health coverage;
- Lifetime limits on insurance coverage are eliminated;
- Annual limits on insurance coverage will be regulated;
- Insurers will be required to provide first dollar coverage for preventive services;
- Dependent coverage will be extended to young adults under age 26 years; and
- Insurers must implement an effective appeals process for coverage determinations and claims.
