We express again our reservations with the AHCA due to the massive coverage losses expected, coupled with premium increases for low-income and elderly individuals, and drastically cutting Medicaid funding and other safety net programs.

    National Patient Advocate Foundation disagrees with the recent proposal to exclude the essential health benefits (EHBs) package in health reform legislation, and cannot in good faith support any such proposal. Our mission has always been to help each individual adult and child access affordable coverage that would allow them to live without the constant worry of a health crisis leading to financial ruin.

    NPAF Statement on the CBO Analysis of the AHCA

    The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) today announced its analysis of the American Health Care Act (AHCA). CBO projects that 24 million more people would be uninsured by 2026 under the ACHA as compared to current law, including 14 million more people by next year. These projections alarm us, as they should also alarm lawmakers.

    NPAF Statement on the American Health Care Act

    While we applaud the important patient protections included in the American Health Care Act -- including a ban on lifetime and annual limits, coverage for preexisting conditions and coverage for dependents up to age 26 -- the bill as proposed also has several provisions that in combination would severely limit access for many Americans, particularly lower-income individuals and their families who have or are likely to be diagnosed with a life-threatening or chronic condition.
